Rethink smart city – Digitalisation as a hot topic in Vantaa
19.3.2019Smart city can only be built from ground up together with citizens, says Francesca Bria, chief technology and digital innovation officer for Barcelona. Bria visited Backas Manor in Vantaa in March 2019.
Digitalisation and smart city were on agenda when a diverse group of people working in urban development gathered together in the centuries old mansion area near Helsinki Airport. Bria led the discussion.
– We are collaborating together with the city of Vantaa, Helsinki and other cities to join forces to rethink smart city in a way that can really serve the citizens, Bria says.
Digitalisation is influencing almost all aspects of our lives and cities can take a proactive role in the digital transformation, reminded Henrik Suikkanen. Suikkanen belongs to Demos Helsinki, an independent think tank.
Barcelona is known for its groundbreaking work around the ownership of data and developing a smart city. Barcelona’s chief digital officer Francesca Bria gives credit also to Vantaa.
– Vantaa and the Helsinki metropolitan area have been pioneering in digital technology for social good.
