Demand-responsive transport piloted – taxi and bus in one package
5.6.2019In Aviapolis, Vantaa a demand-responsive transport service was piloted during one day. The service was operated with three minivans and ten virtual stops created for the service were visible through the mobile application.
Toni, Päivi and Leo Stordell ordered a vehicle almost to their home door using the mobile application. It was possible to track the arrival of the ride on a phone screen.
-This seems clear and easy to use, says Toni Stordell.
According to Project Manager Seppo Pakarinen from Siemens Mobility, the demand-responsive transport means a combination of public transport and taxi.
-Whereas public transport is typically built on fixed schedules, stops and routes, in the demand-responsive transport service they are dynamically formed based on customer orders. The demand-responsive transport can complement the public transport service in off-peak hours and in less densely inhabitated areas, for example.
