Drones delivering parcels in Vantaa – ”A Pilot Unique on a European Scale”
18.4.2019Drones carried parcels in Vantaa’s Aviapolis in March 2019. In this experiment, actual online store deliveries were carried to consumers in Matkahuolto’s transport network.
This is a unique project on a European scale, said Tuomo Tunturi, Matkahuolto’s network manager.
– Here we see a clear opportunity to speed up the delivery of packages. At the same time, ecological benefits are gained, ie carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced.
The multicopter route ran from Matkahuolto terminal to K-Market Kartanonkoski and K-Market Ylästö. The goal was to complete about a hundred parcel deliveries.
Drone experimentation is a part of Aviapolis Traffic Lab which seeks to develop entirely new traffic solutions for the future. City of Vantaa develops low-emission, quiet, safe and cost-effective mobility and urban logistics solutions with over 30 partners.
